About the speaker

Lauren J. Van Scoy, MD, is Professor of Medicine, Humanities and Public Health Sciences at Penn State College of Medicine; Associate Director of the Penn State Clinical and Translational Science Institute; and Director of the KL2/K12 Early Career Development Program.

Dr. Van Scoy is a pulmonary and critical care physician whose research focuses on advance care planning, serious illness communication, end-of-life care, medical decision-making, and qualitative and mixed methods research. Her research includes multiple NIH-funded studies, and she is recognized nationally for developing innovative approaches to engaging patients and families in conversations about serious illness and care preferences.
