In just six weeks after opening membership, The Ohio State University’s Institute on Aging (IOA) has welcomed 165+ members—a growing community of faculty, staff, and trainees whose work shares a focus on aging.

This early response reflects the breadth of aging research across our community and the enthusiasm for connecting people, ideas, and expertise through the institute.

Many perspectives, one shared purpose

Aging research reaches across disciplines, from the biology of aging and the prevention and treatment of disease to caregiving, social connection, and the conditions that support well-being in later life. Connecting these areas of research creates opportunities to ask new questions and learn from one another.

IOA members contribute at every stage of that work. Faculty, staff, and trainees bring scientific, clinical, research, and program expertise, along with new questions and ideas. Together, they form a community with a shared interest in advancing healthy aging through multidisciplinary collaboration.

The people behind IOA

The accompanying collage brings that community into view: 165 individual member portraits form the letters “IOA,” with each person represented once. It is a visual reminder that the institute is built by the people who contribute their knowledge, curiosity, and commitment to aging research.

As membership grows, IOA aims to help researchers find collaborators, exchange ideas, and connect across career stages and fields. The first six weeks offer an encouraging foundation for the conversations and collaborations ahead.

Thank you to every member who has joined and helped shape this growing community.
